A startup company named "Meta" sued Facebook for changing its name!

In November of last year, Facebook changed its name to "Meta" in a surprising move to unify all its brands and to focus more on the Metaverse concept. After eight months, this name has become almost established and everyone is used to hearing it. But apparently, this peace is not going to last, because a 12-year-old startup named Meta filed a lawsuit against the former Facebook in the US Federal Court on Wednesday, claiming that the company's name change to Meta was illegal! Stay with DJ.

In a recent interview with .Inc, the founder of Meta, Justin Bolonino described his current situation as a startup founder's worst nightmare! He spent years building the Meta brand and the concept of the Metaverse, which until 2009 was unknown to anyone. But in September 2021, when it seemed that the situation was getting better, a company called Facebook entered and named the brand "Meta" in its name!

Bolognino says:

We are talking about one of the most valuable words and ideas in the entire world. According to Goldman Sachs, the financial value of this industry will reach more than 8 billion dollars in the next decade. This industry is based on an idea that Meta had and spent 12 years building.

According to Meta's founder, although this startup company has only five full-time employees, it uses a huge group of contractors and independent content producers to set up virtual exhibitions that have been experienced by more than 100,000 people so far.

By the end of September 2021, Bolognino had completed very successful projects with Rolling Stone, Microsoft, Red Bull and some other prominent brands, and presented his experiences at many major conferences. He always mentioned in his talks that the time of META has come.

Suddenly, Mark Zuckerberg entered!
A month later, everything changed. Bolognino was in Las Vegas making his first visit to the Arcadia Earth interactive exhibit when he heard the news. He describes the conditions of that day as follows:

I was eating breakfast alone and my phone was on the table. The phone kept ringing and the amount of notification alerts made me curious. I picked up the phone and it was as if the soul had left my body at that moment and I was seeing myself watching a video of Mark Zuckerberg with that big grin!

Meta's lawyers quickly jumped into action and wrote to Facebook's lawyers, warning them of the violations that had occurred. But Facebook's lawyers claimed in response that there is no overlap between the two companies because they operate in different fields. In addition, Facebook executives claimed that they had already bought the rights of several other owners called Meta, and therefore their trademark dates back to before Meta was founded!

In any case, Meta has filed a formal complaint against Facebook and if it wins in court, it could receive both damages and an injunction that would prevent Facebook from using the Meta brand in areas in which the company operates. Is.

But what if he loses? Faced with this question, Bolognino paused for a few seconds and then said:

I don't want to answer, but that's the problem. I spent 12 years of my life building the meta brand. This company is my identity. Everything we are is meta. I don't know what else to do or what to do. I do not know.

As it is clear from Bolognino's interview, his company is completely undecided at the moment. Although his legal team predicts that Facebook must respond to the lawsuit within the next 21 days as required by law. But no one knows what that answer will be. Therefore, for now, we have to wait and see what will be the response of Facebook's lawyers to this lawsuit and what will be the verdict of the court.
